Destination: Belgium Vacations
One can cross Belgium, from French-speaking Wallonia to Dutch-speaking Flanders, in just about 4 hours. Ethnic differences are mostly ignored by the people (in spite of politicians), who travel frequently and freely from one canton to the other. Brussels, the country's capital, being also the administrative centre of the European Union, is considered the Capital of Europe. Nowadays Brussels has developed a cosmopolitan character because of being the home of worldwide nationalities, much beyond the native French and Flemish traditions. Brussels atmosphere is further enhanced by picturesque medieval streets, lively squares, beautiful boulevards, impressive monuments, spacious parks, cozy cafés, interesting restaurants and an active cultural life. Important tourist areas are the coastlines, the Ardennes region (rich in extensive forests and rolling hills), where Liege and Namur are located and the Flemish cities of Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp.
